was actually the sound of a rock being thrown through my window & after I ran off screaming like the witch in L4D, the perp felt he needed a bigger hole to utilize in his attempt at breaking & entering my homestead. So, he picked up the biggest pine cone he could find in my yard & threw it with full force through my window. Within seconds of the 2nd "explosion" my son hit the defcon police button on my house alarm that sounded immediately. Police responded, report written, Ms. Red is still shaking. The perp was scoping the house before his attempt at B & E because my son said he was banging on the door & ringing the bell. We don't answer the front door here for anyone we don't recognize. My son looked out & observed the perp going through our mail. About 10 minutes later the "explosion" in my room took place. Question for y'all who have been through this kind of situation and more: How can I make my house show that I am in fact occupying it or appear that I am home? If this perp attempted this last week (when I was in work training classes) he would have been able to enter my bedroom & not be noticed until he exited my bedroom upon which his body warmth would set off my motion detector.
I need some ideas anyone has of alerting people that I have a house alarm with a motion detector that calls the local police. Nowadays slapping a sticker on your windows with your alarm company doesn't do the trick. I had that on my window. That sticker was smashed/sliced into bits with the perps attempt to get into my house.

Wow, that’s no fun. How old is your son? Just curios… Try plugging some of your lights into timers set to turn on when it gets dark and / or leaving a radio on during the day when no one is home these are simple and easy solutions. If you don’t already have one, look into getting a dog. Most people will avoid dogs at all costs as they are simply too much trouble to deal with. Think like a criminal, they are always looking for the easiest target. So take a look at what makes your house easier than the other homes around you. One other thing that is fairly obvious is if you have big window you may want to keep shades, drapes or blinds on them and pull them down when no ones home. This makes it difficult for any one to see in there and they won’t be able to see any thing of value or whether or not anyone is inside. A gun is always the best and last resort to home defense, I have one and it has served its purpose once before. If you feel truly threatened then you may want to consider looking into a class A license to carry and some home defense and safety courses that is if you feel a gun is necessary. Hope this helped, I am truly sorry this happened but hopefully you will never have to go through it again. Glad you and your son are alright

I agree with Inetpt, you should always carry a gun. Hell it says you can in the constitution!
Red suggest you get a pistol since it works well from close to medium range, it's light, and in a variety of calibers.
I'm quite educated on the subject so I'll tell you about 3 of them.
45. -------- The 45. caliber round is huge and first showed up in the Browning M1911 Semi-Auto Pistol..... This was developed when we were fighting drugged up locals from the Phillipeans. This is because 9mms [or 32 calibers] simply just made holes and pissed the enemy further. The 45. is designed to knock a grown man down........ Jacketed Hallow Points make it worse!
9millimeter-------- The 9mm, AKA 32 caliber, was used often because of it's size and power. Like what was said above, it's majore point is it's lighter, this works allot of factors like it's range and accuracy. "Pea Shooter" it is, but it's more accurate than a fat old 45.
NEW 40. -------------- The 40. CAL is like the comprimise of the 9mm and 45. Think of it as being the medium between the two. Most P.D.s use this round for that reason mostly. Allot of different pistols use this caliber so there's a good variety.
It mostly depends on what gun you use.
An M1911 45. is a good, rugged, gun that has been in the U.S. military for almost 100 years, but It's a 45.
A 9mm Glock or Beretta is a good choice for it's accuracy and dependency, sadly there's the force factor.
Most 40. caliber pistols are great because of the variety, balance of accuracy and force, and another thing is that the recoil isn't as bad as the recoil whip of a 9mm and the recoil push of a 45.
I'd seriously go for like a 40. Glock because the next robber could be on drugs or be trying to run after doing damage.

Yeah ive been intruded before except my experience was more fearful and remebering and by the way im 14 one day about a month before the scope shop was put in at the end of our street i noticed a suspicious looking man walking back and forth on our street and i was about to walk to the store not far from where i live so i went and i came back and this was my worst mistake i have no key and i had to leave the door unlocked so i did. After i got back i felt like i wasnt alone so i went downstairs where my bedroom is to play games and it was around the time my mother usually gets home and i heard some walking up stairs so i went up and looked around the corner and there he was just standing there looking the other way so i went back downstairs and locked my door and after about 10 minutes i went back up the door was left open and he was gone. in my front living area where what u would call the family room we had a nice 20 inch light weight lcd that was hooked up to our family pc that was gone and i dont know why he didnt take the pc i went into my mom's room her jewelery was gone and then i checked to make sure that there wasnt anything else and he just basically took everything that was worth some thing upstairs i thank god every day that he didnt come downstairs cause when i got a glance at him from behind it looked like he had a gun i dont know so of course i call the popos and just before they got there mother did thats my real life experience.
This is not a lie or story this is my experience from 2 months ago.

Check em out so you know what it is.anyway. spartan, sounds like it was a fiend that was just lookin for some shit to pond off at a swap meat. Looks like all he wanted was a quick come up, which is a good thing cause it didnt turn out worse. Dope fiends on a mission are no easy challenge brother. Callin the popo’s was the right thing to do in your particular situation. Good to know you came outta that safe at least, the other shit you can replace, right? Red, I just got a chance to read your entire post again, and i'm gonna drop a NUKE-post, i'm talking 30000 words + baby alright...here we go.....

Look if your buying a gun solely for home protection, buy a shotgun and use the lightest shot you can buy. A pistol is all fine and dandy if you like bullets going through your walls and, oh I dunno...maybe killing people sleeping in the next room? Besides with a shotgun you don't need to be a marksman. I know it seems strange, but sometimes burglaries happen at night, when its dark and you can't see anything. Not to mention you may be woken out of your sleep and shooting a handgun is probably the last thing you want to do in that scenario. Of course lethal force should be your last resort, but if you want to take preventative measures, how about getting a dog? How about putting bars over your windows? You should never rely on locks. Those are just there to keep an honest man honest.

Buisness, I was just talking about the gun idea, a shotgun would go through the fucking wall more because there's no such thing as a shotgun firing HOLLOW POINTS. HOLLOW POINTS fire a FLAT TIP with a HOLE IN THE MIDDLE so it can EXPAND in the INTRUDER and not fly through the FUCKING HOUSE. What I'm trying to say is that I felt offended by how you replied and why the fuck would you ask this anyways because just the force of the bullet would break through the wall!

whats wrong with gettin those 200k watt taze guns, ive heard if you taze someone long enough, they start pissing and shitting themselves, and eventually go into seizures, or as the police have shown us a few times, can even kill a mother fucker
and to the best of my knowledge, "Cop Killers" penetrate all kinds of shit, thats their main purpose, to make small arms fire like pistols n shit deadlier

The only reason I mentioned a gun in this thread was due to the way that Red described this particular home invasion. It sounded as though even once the perpetrator was aware that someone was home and that they were aware of his presence, he continued attempting to force his way into the house. This concerns me as this means that this guy didn’t care that the home owners where present, or thought they could just forcefully take what they wanted. Worst case, he could have intended to inflict harm. This is why I thought that perhaps if Red felt that the measures I and others had listed above weren’t enough, she may want to consider looking into her local gun laws and perhaps a home defense class. Not so she could start a firefight in her living room. So let’s try to be more realistic in our suggestions shall we gentlemen? Yes Vet, a taser is just as affective however it’s sort of a one shot deal and not very intimidating. Also some states don’t allow civilians to purchase air tasers. Leaving you with much cheaper alternatives. I now a guy who had someone broke into his garage and when he went out to confront him the guy tried to hit him with a hammer or something so after taking a hit or two he grabbed some break cleaner and hit the guy in the face with a squirt. He told me that he found out later that the guy had suffered permanent eye damage. Lesson learned: a can of break cleaner is worse then mace but a hell of a lot cheaper.

Sorry guys. I've been in training for work & gone 10+ hours every day for the last couple of weeks & this coming week will be again. I haven't had time to do much of anything when I'm home. Hell, my gaming hours for Left 4 Dead are only @ 27 hours for the last 2 weeks!
I appreciate all the responses. To clarify a couple things. This happened at 2:30 in the afternoon. It was a bright sunny day. I was asleep because I had a bad migraine. My kid was home because he had the whole week off for presidents week.
I don't have any immediate neighbors here. I have a busy 4 lane road out front that is more like a freeway the way ppl drive on it. All other sides of my house are land with pine trees and bushes. There are enough bushes and trees on the side yard by my bedroom window that this dood felt well hid from the street. Also, the way ppl speed down the street, they would have to slow down & try to look all the way to the back window where I was to get a good look.
What I have done for the day since I have been in training is keep my computer on & tune into talk radio or KLOS classic rock out of Los Angeles. Either of those have enough talking that I'm hoping is sounds like someone is here. I also printed up a sign & put on my front door that solicitors or anyone unknown won't even be acknowledged.
And lastly, I am armed. I was just taken by such surprise being awoke with such a loud "explosion" that I completely forgot to even grab one of the rifles. THAT is what scares me the most. That I wimped out when I was under pressure.
Now, I have a small novel to read in my PM's ;D
