This thread will be dedicated to Fallout 3.
Here we can share stuff..from tips, to special items, special quests, funny moments...etc. This isn't to review the game or comment on bugs and stuff, just a thread dedicated to the game itself. Within the next day or two, I'll post videos of my house (in fallout), gorey kills etc.
This thread is just for fun :]

- Find the alien crash site as soon as possible. The most powerful energy weapon in the game, besides Vengeance, is there. - Kill Billy Creel and take his .44 Scoped Magnum, then run out of Megaton and wait 3 days. They'll forget about what happened, and you have an extremely powerful small gun to use until you find something even better. - Once you some decent weapons and armor, kill the Brotherhood Outcasts and raid ALL of their corpses. - Take a companion as soon as possible, they can be used to store items and they really do help a lot.

nice tips sickle, thanks!
here's a few tweaks ive been experimenting with since this is almost the same engine as oblivion
go to your my documents\games\fallout3\fallout.ini
if they arent already, set these to this bUseWaterShader=1 bUseWaterReflections=1 bUseWaterRefractions=1 bUseWaterDepth=1 bUseWaterHiRes=1 bUseWaterDisplacements=1 bUseWaterLOD=1 bReflectExplosions=1 bAutoWaterSilhouetteReflections=1 bForceHighDetailReflections=1
and this is for the very annoying "shadow jitters"
default is 8.0 .... set it to fFlickerMovement=2.0000 - MUCH better in my opinion
and finally, the decals...so they last longer etc
uMaxDecalCount=100 fDecalLifetime=100.0000 iMaxDecalsPerFrame=200
thats it for now!

I have spent most of my time wandering around and killing raiders. I haven’t really progressed much in the story line.
Alien crash site you say? That is interesting, why the hell wood aliens want to visit that shit hole?
I really need to progress further in the story line.
I always wanted to mess with the oblivion engine but never did. I unfortuatly have the 360 version but at least I don't have to worry about it crashing. I will look into the pc version when the price goes dow and the mods start to flow.

Inept, DONT, it might end quicker than you'd like
the side quests and missions are what really makes the game what it is
also one more tweak thats kinda cool
fDefault1stPersonFOV=
i forget what the default is, probably in the 50's or 60's
mine is set to 80 fDefault1stPersonFOV=80

That’s the problem; I can’t seem to find any side quests. So I am thinking that if I advance the main quest I will unlock something sooner or later. There are a whole bunch of people in Tenpenny tower but none of them seem to have anything for me to do. If I don’t get something soon I am going to kill every one and steal everything out of pure frustration.

I recommend making your companions invincible.
SetEssential 000156f6 1 <-- charon SetEssential 0006a772 1 <--dogmeat SetEssential 000156e5 1 <-- star paladin cross SetEssential 00000a71 1 <--- jericho SetEssential 0003d34e 1 <--- fawkes SetEssential 000156a2 1 <--- clover SetEssential 00027f65 1 <--- butch
You can also use those codes to make copies of them, with: player.placeatme <objectID> <number of copies you want> 1 1
Try it out, nothing beats an army of fucking Jerichos kicking EVERYONE's ass. You haven't lived until you've heard 30 men shout "KID I'M GONNA FUCK YOUR SHIT UP".
Also, Inept, did you talk to Roy Phillips? Try it out.
The alien crash site is to the northwest of Greener Pastures Disposal. Once you've found the radio signal Recon Craft Theta Beacon, you're close.

Um… I kind of… well… you see, I was trying to use the intercom and he was in my way and he was ugly so… I may have accidentally shot him in the face… and set him on fire… and shot him with a rocket launcher.
So long story short I can't talk to him anymore so I need to find someone else.

Where is that building? I just started exploring the northern section of the map, I left because a hit squad caught up with me (random place to find me) and now I am back on the main quest and on my way to the museum of technology.
I found the outcasts and I have been busy gathering stuff for them. I found Dogmeat and he died shortly after, the scrap yard you find him in, is that the one you where talking about? I can’t seem to find that UFO. I am about to give up and go online to get the location.
Has anyone found any kind of vehicle yet? I don’t care where or when you find it but rather if there are any at all. Oblivion had horses so I would assume that Fallout would have some kind of vehicle.

No, there are no vehicles.
The crash site is near Greener Pastures Disposal.
The Dunwich building is on the southwestern corner of the map, just look around for a big building down there.

TIP: every strategy guide I have found on the web has said that the rad scorpions are amongst the hardest wasteland critters to fight. Fact of the matter is they are by far the easiest to kill without using any ammo, getting hit or using VATS.
Next time you encounter one, put away your weapon and bust out some old school oblivion melee on its ass. Remember you can use your melee weapons to block other melee attacks and when you fight the rad scorpion, there attack is actually quite easy to doge. Just get in close take a swing or to and then back off and repeat. Try to get him to strike (tail) at you and if he misses he will be temporarily vulnerable.
So far aside from the rad scorpion and humanoid enemies (wielding melee weapons) I have not found any other creature that I would recommend using melee weapons over firearms but then again I haven’t done much experimenting either.
TIP: (moved) If you start a new game and want some quick caps try this: when you leave the vault go down the road to the nearby ruins of Spring well and take a left at the intersection from there you should already be able to see a house in decent condition (it looks habitable) inside is a women who owes some guy money and she is hiding there. When you first walk in she will confront you and if you choose the negative response (calm down or I’ll put you down) she will attack you. Shoot the bitch in the head and she has something like 400 caps on her. I can’t remember if I lost karma for killing her as I was mainly defending myself but I could be wrong.
Hope this helps.
Vet: Your House is looking alot better then mine. I am still just getting started. BTW, I thought you blew up Megaton?

i did, with my evil character, i took your advice and made two different saves
my evil kill everybody char and my save the wasteland char
ive been cooking up a fallout video with some sweet VATS kills
and those fucking scorpions get on my nerves, i use that flaming "shishkabob" weapon thing on them, i hate to waste the ammo
the "death-claw" is also a heavy damage dealing critter once you reach higher levels

The Death claw is one that I want to try fighting with melee weapons. Even though there are guns, this game is still oblivion at heart and just like how every creature has different vulnerable points some creatures are best dealt with using melee weapons. Try it out on the rad scorp next time you encounter one. So are you ready to port outbreak over to Fallout 3 yet?

haha, give me a construction set like oblivions and i could! maybe... i was pretty good with the editor though, not as advanced as i am with source though also dude, if you wanted anything ported from oblivion to outbreak/source, I can do that easily, just for your info, the zombie models in oblivion probably wouldnt look too good in outbreak, they'd kinda stand out, but it can be done very easily. imagine a daedra metal-based combine elite waaahahh thatd be nuckin futs but yeah i didnt have any other weapon sound fx readily available so thats why it sounds identical, but hey they match pretty good in-game i wish source used the same template the npc_fire_sounds use with the beth engine, much simpler

For future reference, the time that it takes for the engine to reset an area is 3 - 4 days.
