click HERE and fast forward the movie to 1:18 exactly, and look and the crossbow bolts, you'll see they are animated with a bullshit test sprite So, give me ideas, should the bolts be animated? Do the bolts suck? Should they just glow in the dark? Should the default crossbow simply replace that model and leave the original HL2 one in there (with perhaps a zoom function)? if they Are animated, should it be "energyish" like plasma, or some kind of electricity? What, how, why? Whenever anyone gets the chance, feel free to brainstorm or make a suggestion! thanks!

Hm...try to mix sprite and normal texture then it will be kickass.and maybe add small gas tank to show how the heck crossbow shoots bolts with such a big power?

I'd say make the strap closer and tighter to the bolts. To make sure no instance of the "no draw" un assigned textures underneath it are shown. And work on a default animated glowing texture. It seems like lava almost and a tad cheesey. But really it's pretty good. The plasma type idea is pretty cool but I say just have them look like they were heated in a furnace or something. maybe instead of having the texture move around have it radiate and pulse a bit to emphasize the whole 'ouch! thats a hot mother fucker!' look. And Maybe instead of having the bolts all in a row make them stacked like a pyramid instead of: --> OOO -O <--- maybe something like that. O O
kind of hard to explain it but i think you get the idea.

excellent idea, its been implemented, the pyramid
and the current animated bolts were just for concept, im actually gonna go with an unlittwotexture and stream some nice colors

Hmm... I think some sort of electrical look would look cooler. If that were implemented, would it be possible to add the electrical effect that happens when the soldiers get killed with the Super Grav gun? The one where they twitch and spark. That would be perfect.

i like the electricity idea to, the bolts would look really cool, either have electricty inside them or sparking out around them

trunkmonkey, this is also an excellent idea
kenny + trunk = implented and working
now for the twitch effect, haha, might be tricky
ill create a video soon, showcasing the new weapons and new weapon animations, as well as special effects, good job

Wait a tick! How about you skin thw whole weapon and bolt in 1 whole shebang! This way It looks like a makeshift steam propeled nail launcher with a super heating coil in it! Add like a steam effect to each hit and a sizzel sound!

I like the electrical shock using the supergrav gun idea. You’re all going to want to slap me for saying this but… could you script it so that after the poor bustard is impaled and electrocuted… he explodes. Not explode as in fire and smoke but rather just have his body get ripped to shreds. You see I was thinking more along the line of FEAR’s type 7, you know the energy weapon the rips all of your flesh off of your bones instantly. I just had a twisted vision of the crossbow doing something similar. Just a thought.

lol thats a really FUN idea, might be tough to implement though
smod comes with weapon_crossbow_forcesticky weapon+xxxx_explodebolt and fast shoot
so in the script for the custom bow, the energybullet syntax would have to be applied, and..who knows what will happen from there
i havent had a chance to experiment
once i release a beta for everyone, we can tweak all the settings after we all play through it
gotta say, im really looking forward to playing my own (S)mod for the first time in who knows how long!
see you guys soon

I just realized that my idea was thought of as good. Whoopee! Now I don't know anything about coding and scripting, but could you somehow take the effect that the super grav gun does upon death and put it into the crossbow code so that it does that same effect on death?
EDIT: !!!! Had another idea. This may be over the top and impossible/hard to do, but could you take kenny's idea, with the pyramid stack, make it so the bolts spread out, and have some sort of roping/netting between them? Maybe like: In crossbow: _O O O once shot: __________O
_______O_____O and some sort of netting or wires in between them. It's probably over the top, so if you don't have the time/don't want to, just say so.

uh, i hate to break it to you monkey, but that was the ..... COOLEST IDEA EVER :]
i havent experimented with that anything like that at all, however, in theory this is how it would be done
you'd modify the crossbolt.mdl world model and add to new bones, maybe three, in whichb the rope would be connected to the beggining of the bolt, add a collision model and ensure the rotation damping/ragdoll intertia in the compile is set to infinite for lack of better term. then....the ROPE would just dangle after firing a shot with the bow, hahaha shit
i have no brainpower at the moment to embark on a crusade to make the rope from the world model somehow attach itself to the v_model crossbow
that was really confusing
good idea though
and i hate to say this, but i think the crossbow might be dropped, MAYBE, for something even COOLER! (with the same idea as the crossbow, stake gun-like)
thanks for the idea
