i hear ya brother, i always tend to "under-appreciate or value" my work and things i do, in an effort to keep myself constantly improving. not sure if thats easily understood, but yeah. so i guess if i were to be super honest with you guys the new update is a behemoth compared to .45. the new update would be a nuclear holocaust compared to .45. the new update would be elvis to white people compared to .45. the new update is half life 3 just kiddin its alright, i doubt you'll like it zdan, especially if you liked ".45" ohhh you definitely, will not, like this at ALL ;] Makes perfect sense to me, reminds me of ripenting hl1 days. As for the update itself i do not mind the wait as you said in anouther post, "The longer it is, the better it is". I honestly do no think you would enjoy having to do patches constantly. Granted people are anxious to play what you have been showing but all in good time. You want to know what scares me Vet? When you finally finish with HL2 and expand onto episode one and episode 2 lol

you know episode one has always interested me the most, i love it's map design and the overall transition environment switches etc. from deep dark tunnels, to nuclear fallout-like outdoors and urban/city streets. the freeway tunnels in particular will make for some interesting gameplay believe me when the time comes, ill have to talk to oneman about how to get it going (EP1/SMOD)...well...that is IF i ever decide to embark on this i know a lot of people are anxious to download and run this, because you are right, i showed off a bit too much. i thought that providing constant media would "put my money where my mouth is" instead of announcing changes, updates etc and having everyone take my "good word" that this shit was actually getting done, especially since the list was growing at a fast rate back when i was "interactive" with the board, slowly i realized people were just getting sort of frustrated and angry at so much visual content (and not being able to play it themselves), in a way it was teasing everyone and making them crave a release date rather than providing a status update, so in the end it kinda worked against me, which is why i have stopped showing off some much mediaq

lol yeah it sure has got people craving the content you have been cooking up. As for EP1 yeah i would agree, the level design would play great for outbreak if it can expand to it. The city street's war zone would be perfect for a wide spread break out. The combine trying to keep the infection from spreading when the citadel blows and the generator keeping the antlions back goes off. the infection spreads across the city like a wildfire. Now not only has containment failed but they have no means or forces to hold back the tide of undead swarming the city. Chaos utter chaos, one has to wonder what npc you would create for the Zombine

Just so all of you here know, I may not have replied to you personally, but I have read everything here and am certain you should all be happy.
Here's the question I have for you now...the feral ghouls in Fallout 3, which a few of you mentioned...I am proficient with the editor & pretty familiar with nif's, in other words, i can port shit from there into outbreak.
But how does everyone here really feel about the ghouls?
OUTBREAK currently has the hellknight from doom 3, the blood sucker, the wraith from doom 3, and the regenerator from some resident evil game...would the feral ghoul make a suitable feature model and a 5th member to the family of featured zombie2's?
I simply cant make up my mind

The ghouls are pretty scary but not as much as the ones you already have for that category. And don't feel rushed, but you can always release a newer version with lots of stuff. Valve could have made Half Life 2 way better, but they had a time limit. I'm not saying you have a time limit, I'm just saying that if you want to add new stuff to the game continuously it will never come out. But rest assured I'll wait as long as it takes to make the game a quality experience. And back to the ghouls, they're pretty creepy but I feel that if you can jack the models from fallout, you should get the hunger from oblivion, which uses the same engine as fallout 3. Hunger: images2.wikia.nocookie.net/oblivion/images/thumb/2/2f/Hunger.jpg/180px-Hunger.jpgI tried to use NIFskape today and it didn't turn out too well, so don't take my advice too seriously. It might not have the right skeleton for the stuff you want to do *shrugs* If you don't have Oblivion, disregard, or but it. Its cheap now. The post is almost over so don't press the x in the top of your screen. I'm good with photoshop so if you want me to work on something for you, send me the vtf. If it will help get this thing moving faster or if you just want something done, I'll see what I can do. Oh and don't worry I can make the normals over again if I change it drastically. Give me your email and I'll mail you some of my work if you want a sample.

I see, good points, and I do own oblivion, and remember the hungers pretty well, perhaps with some scaling to make them beefier in weight, it could work..

New question
what about enclave soldiers (with heavy metal based physics properties and textures) as combine elites?

|
|
Post by veteran_gamer on Jan 30, 2009 20:53:29 GMT -8
i mean metal surface properties not textures (it will use metal impact decals instead of flesh wounds when you hit them)

here's the two skins from the ghoul i found acceptable for porting... Number OneNumber Twome thinks #2 should be the one selected for trial gonna rig this up to the bones right now I'm thinking a special animated set of eyes would be good too

I like the enclave soldier idea but the thing is it's one of those models that will either look awsome in source or it will look like shit. I supose there is only one way to find out and if it looks the part then we'll have a proper elite.

I do like enclave soldier idea too..but it will require lots of vmt edits and stuff so good luck!

the textures are the easiest part of everything, they can be converted instantly and applied, it's rigging the actual model that takes hours, and requires a lot more time.
the vmt simply requires the a.) texture path for base texture(s) b.) texture path for specified texture(s) normal(s) c.) tweaking envmask/cubemap properties if even needed
i wish the textures were my biggest challenge, shit...i'd be working on EP1 already heheh
tto be honest, i didnt like the way the enclave looked in-game, Inept's instincts were right when he said it either looks good, or like shit in source...but ghoul is doable though...just gotta finish rigging this asshole so he's ready for action in-game

What about the brother hood of steal soldiers? maybe they will come out looking a little better?
I thought about that expeiemental armor, the old us army one. I can't remember what its called, it looks like an earlier version of the brother hood armor. you no which one I am talking about? I think becaus its smother and it looks like it has a lower poly count then the rest of the armors, maybe it will preform better in source?

I emailed you vet. Be sure to check that out and get back to me on what you think. I've done a lot more than that, but I didn't want to spam you all my pictures.
And on that note enclave soldiers for combine elites sounds like it would be cool. Hmmhmm then you could make their melee be insta kill. THWACK!!! Who knows, maybe you could make a fast zombie that wears the enclave outcast armor.

Inept - i never actually got to see the old U.S. army power armor, since its so heavily modded, i usually just ignore the map/quests and explore everything wherever my instinct tells me to go, i stick to visual landmarks etc. do you know the name of the .nif for it? i could probably find it, ill check it out
amf - checking my email now, ill reply

I'm glad you like it. One question, can I view your zombies in model viewer, or is that not a luxury I will have?

you'll have to configure HLMV to use the directory the models will be in as your base
make a shortcut for HLMV
SteamApps\yourname\sourcesdk\bin\ep1\bin
right click on the shortcut, go to properties...and in target add -game "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\whatever you want" , that way this shortcut will force hlmv to recognize your custom mod/directory
so it would look sort like this
"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\yournamehere\sourcesdk\bin\ep1\bin\hlmv.exe" -game "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\modorcustomfolderhere"

done deal
also amf, (not saying you don't ALREADY know this, just a friendly reminder in case you didn't) remember hlmv looks completely different with color depth (Sometimes) than in actual game/client/in-game.
some of the normals may not be able to be seen at all, or in full detail/effect unless tried in game.
good luck and thank you

Dont get me wrong i love the game i get custom files for Fallout 3 to spice up the game a little however the Enclave soldiers as sweet as their armor is was better looking without the light bulbs on the shoulders. Ill see if i can get a screen of the armor. Modified add: Yeah i cant find a screen ill just take one and uplink it in the morning for you when i get on Vet.

Its the brarest armor in the game and the most powerful (debateable) I don't know the the item file names but the I do know the item codes - the power armor is: 000A6F77 and the helmet is: 000A6F78 hope that helps, and yes it looks bad ass And yes I'm drunk... again.
